Working with Substance Use in Psychotherapy

Workshop offered in partnership with a University Mental Health Training Clinic.

By the end of the workshop participants will:

·       Develop a foundational, evidence-based and stigma-informed understanding of substance use health, common myths, biopsychosocial contributors, and the interaction between substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions

·       Recognize and conceptualize substance use within clients’ diverse contexts (including trauma-informed and culturally safe principles to conceptualize clients’ substance use within their broader lived contexts, identities, and systemic factors)

·       Build practical therapy skills for supporting people with substance use health concerns, drawing from CBT and related approaches (e.g. Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness-based approaches).
